Tamil Nadu Government transfers Dr. Beela Rajesh IAS to Commercial Taxes and Registration Department from the Health and Family Welfare Department. Dr. Beela Rajesh was holding the position as the state’s Health Secretary since February 2019 and through the pandemic COVD-19.
The TN government issued the transfer order on Friday and brought J. Radhakrishnan, who is believed to be the most trusted hand of the government, to the post of Health Secretary.
Beela Rajesh has become the familiar face in the state, apart from Health Minister C. Vijayabasker and CM Edappadi Palaniswami, since the outbreak. This unprecedented and unexpected decision of the government has brought many political speculations among the public while the spread of the Coronavirus is at its crucial stage in the state.
As of June 11, the infection rate has crossed 38,000, with more than 27,000 cases named to Chennai. On Thursday, 1,837 fresh COVID-19 cases were added to the state’s count. The Total Coronavirus graph stands at the mark of 38,716 as of June 11 and is feared to grow in the coming days.
On the other side, the state’s death rate rose to 349, with 23 new deaths on Thursday. CM Edappadi Palaniswami, who visited Salem yesterday for many inauguration ceremonies, denied the allegations of the government hiding the COVID-19 death figures. He said that the claim has no evidence.
Now, the state is towering towards a higher number in the infection rate; it has appointed J. Radhakrishnan as a news health secretary. He was already designated as the nodal officer for Greater Chennai Corporation(GCC) since the pandemic.
He was one of the senior IAS officials and held many significant accomplishments like handling the 2004 Tsunami crisis at Nagapattinam and the great disaster Chennai floods 2015. J. Radhakrishnan was tasked to handle emergencies mostly in his service and named to the Disaster Management for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). There is a vast expectation arisen on him now.
