Studies confirm children to be silent carriers of COVID 19

Recent studies on COVID19 infections among children give alarming results of them being silent carriers of the virus. As per an August report by the American Academy of Pediatrics, there is a more than 17 % rise in COVID 19 cases among children in two weeks.

Another report from the New York Times shows that the increase in COVID 19 cases among children are 720 % compared to 270 % among adults since May in the US.

Also, a rare disease called MISC- C caused by children’s hyper immunity may damage their heart to cause death if untreated in time. So far 11 are children dead and 694 cases infected with it in the US and 1,000 worldwide.

A study suggests children be silent carriers of COVID 19

Until now, children were thought to be immune enough not to get affected by the novel coronavirus. But recent studies are showing on the contrary. And the worst is that they are loaded with the virus but are asymptomatic.

And the worst part is they could shed their virus to vulnerable people around them to spread the virus rapidly. A recent study published in JAMA Pediatrics journal confirms it with testing 91 children from 22 hospitals.

The research was done in South Korea by testing these children every three days. The result was alarming as 93 % of the children with COVID 19 infection were asymptomatic. For all the children the virus was detectable up to 2.5 weeks and was shedding virus for three weeks.

Study finds rare disease MISC-C

A recent study published in the Journal of Pediatrics came up with a rare disease among children called MIS-C. It is the multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children, also known as a pediatric multisystem syndrome in the UK where it was first found.

The study carried out on 192 children up to 22 years of age, found 49 to be positive to the virus and 18 with MIS-C. It resembles Kawasaki disease of shock syndromes among children and youngsters, which could cripple the organs like heart to cause death.

A Wales Online study confirms new COVID 19 symptoms among children

A new study by the Cardiff and Vale University Health board reported by Wales Online confirms of new COVID 19 symptoms among children. Apart from the persistent cough and change of taste and smell, the affected children are also having vomiting and diarrhoea. The authors of the study want these symptoms also to be added to the guidelines for COVID 19 symptoms.

All these studies and more are alarming as schools are to reopen in many states, and it could jeopardize their studies. Also, the asymptomatic children being loaded with the virus may shed it to spread to the other children and also bring it to home to the elders, which could bring another wave of the deadly infections again.
