Coronavirus in K-Town: What are the Films that got Disruption From Covid-19?

Corona did not leave the movie industry wherein the wake of the initial announcement on March 15 that the theatres should be shut down in certain districts and taluks, which shared the borders of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala. Following this blow, there was a big blast in which the government has asked all the theatres to shut till March 31st. Movies that were scheduled to get released last Friday have been catapulted by this decision. This is alike the same, which happened in 2018 when K-Town’s then office bearers planned a 48-day lockout owing to revamping the system. Releases and shooting have gone for a toss.
As such, a lot of movies are on the verge of getting stalled viz Director Ahmed’s Jana Gana Mana starring Jayam Ravi and Taapsee. The movie’s climax is supposed to be shot in Portugal and is halted due to the pandemic outbreak.
Director Naveen’s multi-starrer Agni Siragugal, which was shot in many countries like Russia, European countries, and Kazakhstan, has hit India, but to conclude the movie, some portions are to be shot in the other states which are at stake now. Akshara Haasan to replace Shalini Pandey in few sequences in the movie, and Kolkata and Goa shoots are tossed in the air.
For one of the directors, John Paul Raj IPL postponement has come as a boon amidst bane for others as Harbhajan Singh, and Losliya’s Friendship could be wrapped up before the tournament gets kicked off. The first schedule of the movie is already over.
Two more movies Vikram’s Cobra, which was being shot in Russia and untitled Arun Vijay’s movie, are stranded after the Indian government’s travel advisory. Arun Vijay said, “We were shooting the movie for almost 11 days in Delhi and Agra, and just a couple of days more would have given us the satisfaction. Not an issue these scenes can be filmed in Chennai too.
Few other movies viz Ajith’s Valimai, Prabhu Deva’s Bhageera, Atharvaa’s untitled project, debut Director Brindha’s Hey Sinamika, Santhanam’s untitled project with A1 Director and Vijay Antony’s untitled project have been stalled due to this pandemic.
Even release schedules have been on the verge of postponement. Prabhu Solomon’s multilingual project Kaadan was supposed to hit the screen on April 2 now stands postponed. According to the Director’s statement, the post-production works are pending, and if things are as planned, it will hit the screens by the end of next month.
The release of Jayam Ravi starrer Bhoomi, Dhanush starrer Jagame Thanthiram, and Vishal’s Chakra also has been postponed due to the pandemic disease. These three movies were expected to hit screens by May 1. So far, there is no change in release date announced for Vijay-Vijay Sethupathi starrer Master, which plans their release on April 9. Surya’s Soorarai Pottru team also has not let out any change in the schedule.
A lot of small budget films are taking a big hit in this crisis. P.G. Mutthaiah, the producer of Cocktail starring Yogibabu, wrote a letter to Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council stating that “the low budget films have only two months window February and March which has now taken a big hit.
When situation recoups, these films should be given opportunities. We have to incur promotional costs once again to ensure the audience should turn heads towards us amidst high budget top hero movies. Tough time for us.” Jyothika’s Ponmagal Vandhaal audio launch is also postponed owing to this dreadful disease.
